SAIL Students Iowa-Bound!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE CELL PHONE POLICY OF SAMS AND CCSD
Effective March 27, 2012 any cell phone which is confiscated by a teacher, staff member or administrator at St. Andrews Middle School will be stored in our school vault and will not be returned to a parent or guardian until the end of the school year (no earlier than May 28, 2012).
 
The above statement is in accordance with district policy prescribed in the CCSD Student Code of Conduct 2011-2012 (p. 19) which states, "Students using or having cell phones or telecommunication devices visible during the school day or after school hours inside of school buildings shall have their cell phone or communication device confiscated.  The device shall be returned to the student at the end of the school year or earlier to a parent or guardian at the discretion of the school's administration.  Failure to retrieve the device within 30 days of the end of the school year will result in the disposal of the device..."

CARNIVAL CAKE WALK
We are seeking donations of baked items (cakes, cookies, pies, bars, etc.) for the Cake Walk at our Carnival which will be held the afternoon of Tuesday, May 29th.  If you are able to help us, please bring your baked item to the front office the morning of the Carnival.  We appreciate your support!

YARD SALE/CAR WASH
St. Andrews Middle School Odyssey of the Mind teams are hosting a Yard Sale and Car Wash on Saturday, May 19th.  Proceeds from the event will be used to send the four state-winning Odyssey of the Mind teams to World FInals at Iowa State University.  If you would like to donate items for the yard sale, please bring them to the side gym locker room.  Donations will be accepted through the day of the Yard Sale.  Thank you for your support.

Congratulations to 8th graders Emi Nesbitt, Brianna Connolly and Cali Cooks for making the WAHS Cheerleading Squad for 2012-2013!

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
Congratulations to the five St. Andrews Middle School Odyssey of the Mind teams for their outstanding participation at the State Odyssey of the Mind Competition which was held at St. Andrews Middle School on Saturday, March 17th.  Four of the teams placed 1st in their problem, and one team placed 2nd.  All five teams will now advance to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals which will be held May 22-27 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  The Odyssey of the Mind program at SAMS is facilitated through the GT/Honors Enrichment program.  For information on each of the teams, including a list of coaches and team members, see the attachment.  The Problem 3 Team is shown in the photo here.  For more photos, see the folder Photo Album 2011-2012 under "School Resources" at left.

SOUTH CAROLINA JUNIOR SCHOLARS
Congratulations to Logan Browning, Erica Hoskins and Theresa Linker for being named 2011-2012 South Carolina Junior Scholars!  The South Carolina Junior Scholar program recognizes 8th grade students who acieve academic excellence.  In order to become a South Carolina Junior Scholar, students take the PSAT test, a national standardized achievement test.  Students who score 50 or higher on this test in critical reading, math or writing are identified as a South Carolina Junior Scholar.  Logan qualified to become a South Carolina Junior Scholar with his score on the math portion of the PSAT, while Erica and Theresa qualified with their scores in critical reading.

PARENT PORTAL
PowerSchool is the district's new electronic student management system designed to collect and store student information.  PowerSchool's Parent Portal is a "doorway" into the system that provides real-time access for parents to their children's grades, attendance, assignments, and more. To access the Portal, parents will only need a computer with internet access; no special software is required.  See the attachment for details on accessing St. Andrews Middle School's Parent Portal.  If you need further assistance, contact Ms. Alia Marks at 763-1533.

UNIFORM ITEMS NEEDED
We are in need of khaki pants, blue pants, jeans without holes, and belts for the uniform closet.
